Dear Comrades
Kachin National Organization of UK will be holding Demonstration for Global Action of
Ethnic Kachin to Protest Military Backed Government in Front of the Burmese Embassy
in London, UK.
Although Burma's new government has recently made some tentative political and economic reforms, there has been no change in the attitude of the ruling leaders toward the decades-old ethnic issues. Despite paying lip-service of making ceasefire offer, the use of chemical weapon by the Burmese army, the continuous reinforcement of troops and the massive supply of the military equipment and its ration to the Kachin ethnic areas are taking place. Therefore, it is illustrated that their collective mentality toward the ethnic Kachin is no different from that of the previous military regime.
The outrageous attacks carried out by the Burmese Army against the Kachin ethnic armed group is escalating on daily. If the positive changes are to be implemented by new government as it claims, the Burmese troops from the Kachin ethnic’s area must be withdrawn, the nation- wide ceasefire is to be declared and genuine dialogue is to be engaged in this particular time of event.
On-going abuses of the Burmese Military meant that the Kachin civilians are assaulted with inhumane brutalities such as having their houses burnt down and their churches being used as the Burmese military barracks. Furthermore, violently arrests, tortures and killings of any individual on suspicious and rapes of civilian women are on regular practice.
Owing to the military conflict, it has driven over 20,000 of IDPs to have fled to the refugee camps along the China border from the war zone area. Under such uncompromising weather, extremely cold condition, the IDPs and refugees suffer from a number of current issues such as lacks of shelter, shortage of food, health problem and numerous social difficulties. And yet the Burmese government has been blocking the international aids for the IDPs to access, which would further increase the level of vulnerability of IDPs.
Therefore, a request is made upon you to participate upcoming demonstration. The core aims of the event are:
1. To condemn the outrageous Burmese Military offensive against KIA/KIO and Ethnic Kachin.
2. To withdraw immediately all Burmese Military Troops from Kachin areas and declare Nation-wide ceasefire.
3. To engage in meaningful dialogue and genuine peace talk through UNFC.
4. To stop humanitarian aid's acess to the IDPs of ethnic Kachin.
